What are you hoping to create in 2024 for your business and your employees? If you’re like most leaders, your goals include higher profits, happier customers, improved employee satisfaction, and reduced turnover. Makes sense. If you’re ready to turn up success this year, those are all excellent goals. But what if one… dare I say “resolution…” could help you achieve all of those goals? Let 2024 be the year you resolve to have more fun at work! The days of expecting your employees to slug through a 9-5 workday, silently staring at a computer screen, surrounded by drab walls and fluorescent lighting, are over. Employees expect better and frankly, when they get it, they actually DO better. a study by the University of Warwick, found that employees who were shown a 10-minute comedy clip or given drinks and snacks were 12% more productive than the control group. This research supports the idea that it’s time to turn up the fun in your organization! What Does a Productive Employee Look Like? Hopefully, you hired well. But if you aren’t providing an optimal environment for your employees, you may not even know what a productive employee looks like. Here are some characteristics to look out for (and to aim for as you incorporate more fun into the workplace). Productive Employees are: • Receptive to feedback. They want to do a better job and appreciate constructive feedback. • Organized. A productive employee has a handle on their schedule, their workload, and their workspace. • Independent. These employees do not need to be pressured into beginning or completing a project. They are eager to achieve and to grow. • Positive and communicative. Productive employees won’t waste their time gossiping around the water cooler. Their attitude is generally positive, and if there is a problem, they will go directly to the source in an attempt to resolve it. • Innovative. Productive employees love to problem solve, and they are always ready to use creativity to tackle a challenge. How Do You Incorporate Fun in the Workplace? There are a variety of reasons and ways to make the work day more enjoyable for your employees. We’ll dive into many of them in the near future. For now, I’ll share what has always worked for me. As a keynote speaker, I’m responsible for raising the energy of a meeting or event. I aim to evoke emotion from the attendees and create an environment of fun and joy. And I do it through music. Through drumsticks and air guitars, attendees get to stand up, rock out, and laugh. When they go back to their jobs, they know that it’s not only okay to have fun, it’s actually preferred. This is a message that you can convey to them every day. This is the year to incorporate play and fun into your organizations. Your employees will not only be happier, but they’ll be more productive (which will make you happier!). For more tips on how to turn up the fun in 2024, visit https://marvellessmark.com.
